Green Porn

A preface: Don't worry, minors can click here, there is nothing pornographic about the content you are about to read in spite of the title. At least, if a theatrical and scientific reproduction of the sex life between marine animals is not considered porn.

Ah yes, because Green Porn indicates a series of videos realized by the director Isabella Rossellini, daughter of the great Roberto Rossellini and actress Ingrid Bergman, on the life, reproductive activities, and death of some animals that live in the waters or seas and lakes. The scene is this: there is Rossellini in a kitchen intent on explaining – frying pan in hand – some typical Italian recipes like Neapolitan Pizza, fried calamari, and risotto with shrimp. Well then, when the protagonist must specify the quantity and conditions of the marine ingredients, the scene is suddenly blacked out and the setting passes almost as if by magic to a surreal aquatic landscape. And here comes the part that is nicer, more useful, and I would say engaging: the same director, together with other appearances, is disguised with magnificent clothing from squid, crab, and shrimp. With gestures and words that are as worth as those ones of the Italian documentary maker Piero Angela, she explains the life, sex and death of these animals. It is a charming journey in which water contributes to rendering the scene almost dreamlike.

If you want to have an idea of the work, you can visit the site of Sundance Film Festival the prestigious international event dedicated to independent film that has supported the work. On the site, you can find all the videos realized, including those of the third series just gone out. Also because Isabella Rossellini, always a bizarre personality, has described the sexual activity of other animals as well, like insects. So to satisfy to the most morbid palates.
